Elite Dragonfly G2
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I recently bought an HP Elite Dragonfly G2 for college, and I am astonished at how absolutely horrible the webcam is. We're talking like below 240p looking quality, completely filled with multicolored noise in even moderate light, can barely discern the basic details of my face. This is absolutely unacceptable for videochatting. I paid $2500 for this machine, and the webcam looks like something taken from the absolute worst cell phone you've ever seen over a decade ago. I am hesitant to return it, because I need to pay a 15% restocking fee, and very few laptops seem able to support dual booting Windows and Linux while being ultrabook convertible laptops with pen and touch input. (I have tried a few others, all had awful firmware or design defects and didn't run Linux properly.) HP reserved the better webcam for the Elite Dragonfly Max, which I didn't buy because the SureView screen is supposedly terrible (garbage viewing angles, low brightness). Should I just buy an external webcam? Honestly, I am incredibly disappointed in HP for choosing such a poor webcam for such an expensive machine. The awful webcam is a major dealbreaker for me, and makes this laptop unusable for videochatting. For $2500 this is unacceptable. This webcam sets the bar the absolute lowest I have ever seen for video quality. Are other HP notebooks configured with webcams this terrible?

Hello,

I own a Dragonfly G2 too.  am agree, the webcam quality is average, but it is not the worst I saw in laptop world. HP must want to promote the Dragonfly Max's 5 Mpix webcam.

I am satisfied with the G2 webcam, even if I do not understand why the 5 Mpix webcams are not in all the PCs whereas they are in all the "smaller" smartphones. I hesitated a lot before choosing the HP Sure View display. In the end, I am extremely happy. It is very bright, precise. No problem and I recommend it. I saw the reviews on the internet, I don't understand why they don't like the screen. Maybe they didn't set it right?
