The HP DisplayLink 4K docking station is a failure. I have to always unplug and plug back multiple times to make it work after my laptop went to sleep!
I had no such problem with Dell docking station.

did you try running HP Image Assistant to make sure all drivers and BIOS are up to date? Also, go ahead and install the latest version of the dock driver from www.displaylink.com
If the problem persists, can you provide more details on the setup, connection, display model, OS version, etc.?
I work for HP. However, all opinions and comments are my own.
