Hi @3687,

It sounds like you're encountering a persistent issue with your HP EliteBook 830 G5 where the fan is running at high speed. Here are some steps you can take to try and resolve this issue:

  1. BIOS Verification and Update:

    • Since the BIOS chip was replaced and the system settings show a different model name, it's crucial to verify if the BIOS is properly configured for the correct model.
    • Visit the HP Support - Software and Driver Downloads page for the HP EliteBook 830 G5, and ensure the latest BIOS version compatible with your device is installed.
    • Re-flashing or updating the BIOS using the correct model's firmware might solve some mismatches.
  2. Reset BIOS Settings:

    • Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS setup (usually by pressing F10 during boot).
    • Find the option to reset BIOS settings to default and apply it to ensure correct system configuration.
  3. Check for Windows Power Settings:

    • Go to Control Panel > Power Options.
    • Select Change plan settings for your current power plan, then click on Change advanced power settings.
    • Navigate to Processor power management and check the settings for Maximum processor state. Lower the value slightly to reduce processor performance and see if it impacts fan speed.
  4. Update Drivers:

    • Use HP Support Assistant or manually check the HP website to ensure all drivers, especially the chipset and thermal drivers, are up to date.
  5. Check Task Manager:

    • Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and check if any application or service is unusually consuming high CPU resources, which might be causing the fan to run at high speed.
  6. Physical Dust Cleanup:

    • Dust can build up in the cooling vents and fan, which affects cooling efficiency. If comfortable, clean the vents using compressed air.
  7. Reevaluate BIOS Chip Installation:

    • Given the BIOS chip replacement, it is advisable to re-evaluate the installation if the model recognition is incorrect. A professional review might be necessary to ensure proper installation.
