I started my notebook today. The mouse reacted jerkily. That's why I restarted the computer. But I immediately got the following display ("Final step of BIOS recovery is in progress"). The fan is running at full speed. The screen is now black. I have not received any useful help from the HP AI assistant. Who can help? I need the computer as soon as possible. Thanks in advance to everyone for their help.

It appears an unwanted (?) bios update was performed.
try a hard reset
- Turn on the computer by holding the power button down for 20 full seconds then release.
- Press the Power button one more time (if necessary) to start the computer.
If that does not work then try the BIOS recovery
HP support video for bios recovery
Click here to see how to recover your BIOS.
Do 1, 2, and the first part of 3.
For the second part of 3 you will need a USB flash drive and possibly an
older BIOS if the recent BIOS caused the problem. Make sure the USB flash had LED lights.
For laptops, step 2 'CMOS reset' there is no CMOS battery nor CMOS switch and no need to open the laptop. Use the Windows key + 'v' as explained here.
To install from USB.
When you power up your system the LEDs on the flash drive should flash once at the instant power is applied. They will then flash about three to five seconds later (hopefully). When they flash a second time that means the files are being read from the flash drive. If you never see it flash a second time then the boot loader is damaged and you cannot recover the bios unless you use a programming tool or replace the chip. You hold down the Windows key + B key when powering up with the USB flash inserted.
Let me know what you find out.

Hello BeemerBiker.
Thank you very much for the quick help. Yes, it is obviously (looks like) an unwanted BIOS update. I have tried the first and the second suggestion - unfortunately without success.
On the HP website I learned that the BIOS recovery from the USB stick will not work if the computer has an automated / integrated recovery function. This is the case with my computer. That's why I didn't try it.
As I bought my computer in October, I have now contacted my dealer. He wants to get in touch with HP. Let's see what happens... I am still confident.

The USB bios recovery procedure is useful if the disk was ever replaced or a "clean" OS install is made. HP keeps old BIOS versions in a special recovery "HP Tools" partition and if the partitions are deleted the WIN-B bios recovery procedure will not find an older bios. You then insert the USB, turn on the PC, and then press the Win + B key and the PC will (hopefully) look for a recovery bios in the USB flash instead of on the hard drive.
This only works if the bootstrap part of the BIOS still functions.

This happened to me on 22 February. My brand new laptop tried installing HP BIOS and System Firmware (W77), and failed. Windows then started working slowly. I restarted the machine, and it went into Final Step of BIOS Recovery and lasted forever. I called HP Support. They tried everything (esc, F2, F9 and F12) but still couldn't get into any BIOS setup and menu. My new faulty laptop is now waiting to be collected by HP for repair/rebuild.
