Fingerprint sensor is optional. Did you buy this option for your machine ? You can buy parts and install yourself using
- Fingerprint reader assembly (includes cable) part # L62741-001
- NOTE:The fingerprint reader bracket is included in the Bracket Kit, spare part number L62737-001.

I did some digging and found it was just a plastic cap for covering the hole. Slightly mad that it looks so convincing with no indication its a cap but eh, cant be too mad.
I went ahead and got an 840 G5 fingerprint scanner on eBay since the part has been discontinued by hp. When the part comes hopefully it's just plug and play.
