Hi @Demorgan1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

We noticed that this thread hasn't had any updates since your original post. While this is rare, we didn't want this post to remain unanswered, so here's the solution to your query. We hope it helps you and everyone viewing this post 😊

I understand that you are trying to set up the fingerprint scanner on your HP EliteBook 840 G6, but Windows is only showing Windows Hello Face Recognition, and fingerprint setup is not available.

One important thing to note is that not every HP EliteBook 840 G6 configuration includes a fingerprint reader. The fingerprint reader was available on select configurations, so the presence of a similar-looking area on the keyboard does not always confirm that an actual fingerprint sensor is installed.

Could you please share a clear photo of the complete keyboard layout, especially the area around the palm rest/keyboard, so we can check whether your specific unit appears to have the fingerprint reader or only the cover plate?

Also, please check the following:

  1. Right-click Start and open Device Manager.
  2. Look for the Biometric devices category.
  3. Check whether a fingerprint reader is listed there.

If there is no fingerprint reader listed under Biometric devices, your particular configuration may not have the fingerprint hardware installed. The HP documentation for the EliteBook 840 G6 identifies the fingerprint reader as being available on select products.

Please share the full keyboard layout image and, if possible, a screenshot of the Biometric devices section in Device Manager. We can then check the available information and help you determine whether your specific EliteBook configuration includes fingerprint hardware.

I'm an HP Employee.
