Firefly 16 G9 AND G10 laptops are updating automatically to a more recent version of bios than is available on the HP drivers website.
ie - Firefly 16 G9 is reporting bios 01.09.00 installed, but the latest available from HP is 01.08.01
Firefly 16 G10 is reporting bios 1.03.00 installed but the latest available from HP is 01.01.08
Has HP withdraw the previous release of bios files for newer laptops?
If I roll the bios back to the 'correct' version, as indicated by the HP drivers site, the laptops just roll forward again to the 'unreleased' versions.
This has implications for several controllers on the motherboard, which have also been firmware updated by the newer bios files.

I have noticed that the new BIOS updates get pushed to PC's via Windows update sooner than HP uploads them to the support pages.
Check back in a couple of weeks and I am very sure the BIOS update files will show up on the support pages.
That used to be a concern of mine as well, but since I have noticed that HP eventually gets around to publishing the updates on the PC's support page, I don't worry about it anymore.
There should be a way to turn off automatically updating the BIOS via Windows Update from within the BIOS menu if you never want these updates to be pushed to your PC's via Windows update.

Thanks Paul,
I've rolled back one of the G9's and found a 'lock bios' option, as it still appeared to update, even with 'Automatic BIOS Update Setting' set to Disabled.
We've had some problems with long shutdown times, which I'm resolving by reinstalling the IMEI, Chipset and RST drivers, also disabling the 'HP Audio analytics service', due to a few high cpu issues we've had with that service.
This bios thing looks like HP have pulled a load of recent bios files, or as you say, for some reason Microsoft is able to release them before HP.

You're very welcome.
The one thing that does bother me is that we are the 'guinea pigs' for these updates, such as what has happened in your situation.
And then most of us like to read the release notes before we proceed with updating the BIOS, which you can't do via Windows update.
Fortunately, all of the windows-pushed BIOS updates I have gotten to my HP and Dell PC's have not had any bad side effects.
There was one windows-pushed BIOS update that caused a whole model series of HP all in one desktops with AMD chipset MonkD motherboards to have failed BIOS updates.
We're talking in the dozens.
Fortunately, there was a fix and that was to create a BIOS recovery drive and install an older BIOS version.

It looks like MS did install the newer bios, and they changed the name as well... HP call it 01.09.00 but MS call it 1.9.0.0 which doesn't help, when we're looking after estates with many enterprise machines.
I prefer a bit more accuracy myself.
Bios lock appears to work ok anyway, so I'll run this one for a while and see if it's a bit more stable.
