HP ZBook Fury 16 G9 Mobile Workstation PC (609L4AV)

The computer came up with a message from HP saying that a firmware update was necessary. There was no choice to not do the update and the computer proceeded to restart and do the update on its own, I did not order this update, I didnt want it and I did not do it myself. After the update I started getting all sorts of faults and crashing with BSOD. The computer was flickering, pausing and crashing. It said it was something to do with a faulty video driver but couldnt find any faulty drivers. After trying several work arounds, uninstalling the video card, windows updates, troubleshooting through windows and HP  assistant and even a reset of the PC to no avail I called support. I was told I had to do a wipe of all files and windows using safe reset and a complete re-install. After performing this the computer was still having the same issues. I called back to support and was told that this method wasnt good enough I had to do it again but had to do an image onto a USB stick and then re-install from there rather than through the internet. I balked at this and complained, it not only performs the same function but now I had to go out and buy a USB stick at my cost. But was told no I had to do it, I refused and elevated the request to a repair. Now I am told that I will be without a computer for 2-3 weeks while the repiar is performed. I use this computer for my business and have spent 2 full days trying to repair a machine that HP made faulty. I didnt do this update, the computer did it automatically and no-one has been able to tell me how to fix it. I bill out at $250/hour so I so far have more money in this computer than its worth, as far as I am concerned you can take it back, give me a refund and I will go buy a competitors. I thought I was buying a computer that worked, I paid good money for it and I bought it because HP has always worked for me in the past.

Hi, I appear to have similar issues.  My HP ZBook Fury 16 G10 was forced to update to firmware version 1.5.5.0 yesterday 7/3/24, and my device has been rendered unusable since.  The worst and most frequent issues are blue screen error messages saying that "Your device ran into a problem and needs to restart.  We'll restart for you." which causes the device to get stuck in a restart/reboot loop for a few cycles, until it reboots into a diagnostics and repair mode.  This issue appears to have caused other related errors, due to possible file corruption from multiple improper restarts/shutdowns.  I tried numerous repair options, with only one real temporary fix.  I was able to temporarily rollback the firmware (via system setup and USB flash drive) to an older version and restore a Windows 11 23H2 restore point from prior to the update.  However, the system then forces the firmware update again, starting the issues all over again.

I was told to put my issue on this site and HP would respond but I have no response as of yet. Does anyone actually look at these or is it just a place to swap wind?

Downgrade the bios once again. And then you have up to 3 options to block another unwanted automatic bios  upgrade:

1. setting a bios password (even setting it to e.g. "bios" will do the job)

2. blocking bios update with an option from within the bios

3. blocking windows to perform bios updates

It wasnt windows that did the update, it was HP through HP Assistant

Bios password should  prevent an automatic update in any case.

OR: In my bios there is an option called "lock bios version".
