So i recently got my hands on some fresh ram and a new battery for my Elitebook 8460p and have been using it as a daily driver with Kubuntu but have been having some issues with temperatures (averaging 60 - 80 on any workload) and read somewhere that it may be a bios bug and my fan is pretty quiet and no software can access them so i went on a hunt to get a updated version of bios just to discover my only option for install is an exe... which is rather stupid as it lets me select linux as my OS then just gives me a exe but whatever.
I have tried using wine to get the exe to run but nothing i do seems to work so i would like to know how i can go about getting the files for my usb drive to flash bios manually.

Hello.
Unfortunately, Linux support for HP products has been really half baked.
If you have access to another Windows PC you can download the last version (F.67) softpaq and after executing it select the option to create a bootable USB key. When it has finished preparing the drive, just reboot your Linux laptop with it and let it update the BIOS.
You cannot upgrade the BIOS in a Wine session, but you may be able to create the USB key there as well if you can mount the USB drive and give Wine full access to it. I can't help you with that though; ask for more help in Wine/Linux forums.
I also recommend opening the bottom panel of the laptop and blowing some compressed into the fan and vents to remove dust/lint/cat hair to help with the cooling.
