I have been searching for a proper solution everywhere and it seems the HP staff may need some help. If you find the

Function Keys (FN) not working; Specifically The Brightness button and the microphone button FN keys.. then do the following

1. Install the latest

Microsoft Redistributable  c++ 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2022
2. Ensure you can start and stop the Service called "HP Hotkey UWP Service". If you can you are good to go.
3. If you do not see the service,  use the HP Support Assistant or download the latest drivers under Keyboards and input drivers

Hello

did you try to presse the Function Key with and without pressing "FN" key to icnrease/Decrease brgihtness ?

with 840 G5 you need "HotKey Support UWp" https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp115001-115500/sp115288.exe or "HotKey Support" Legacy  https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp98501-99000/sp98968.exe

First try UWP version.

reboot the unit

then try the FN Keys

bye

Thanks for the help. I got a new HP EliteBook 830 G6 and was having the same problem. Contacted HP tech support and the tech had me re-format my drive and re-install Windows 10 including all updates and driver. I spent several hours needlessly. Your solutions is the answer.
