I cannot get my G5docking station to provide power to the laptop through the USB-C connection. I've updated all the drivers for the dock and the bios and firmware on the PC. I bought a dock so that I don't have to crawl under the desk and plug in my laptop cable every time I take the computer off the desk.

The specs of your machine is
https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_8838241-8838285-16
It requires 150W charger. Wattage of the HP USB-C G5 dock is 100W (20V all at 5A MAX) therefore it won't be able to charge your machine. It would charge your machine when it is idle or off.
Note: It won't power your machine too. It is too weak.
Regards.

Hello.
There are no USB-C docks offering more than 100W power delivery, because 100W is the maximum that USB Power Delivery specification goes to.
What you can do is to get a secondary power supply for travel and leave the current power supply cable on the desktop.
HP has Thunderbolt docks that provide up to 280 Watts of power but your laptop does not have Thunderbolt functionality so the docks may only work partially or not at all with your laptop. These docks provide power to the laptops with an auxiliary power cable next to the USB-C cable as shown in the picture below. Since your laptop has power connector on the left side and USB-C on the right side, this split cable may not even reach both at the same time.
There may be similar 3rd party non-Thunderbolt docks available which provide an extra power cable, but I am unaware of them, you'll have to search the internet and online marketplaces for such a beast. In that case make sure it does not require Thunderbolt; offers 150W power @19.5V; the barrel power connector is of correct size; the USB-C and power cables can reach your laptop connectors at the same time. Good luck.
