(why do i have to write in english here?)

i have 5 hp laptops meanwhile. every one was able to be identified over the web by hp.

the latest one, #6, I bought it 2nd-hand, a 255 G7, not. it is much "younger" than all other hp laptops I am using, and I can update drivers etc. on all of the "old" ones without any problems - and they all are still automatically identified over the web, e. g. my HP ProBook 650 G2.

i wanted to check the 255 G7 for updates with drivers etc.

the keystroke to display the information to identify the producht does not work.

however, on the back side I found the following information: SN# CNDXXXXX0X. first, as a kind of a computer pioneer, i aks myself, if "0" is a zero (yes, it is) or the capital letter "O"? second, hp is not able to produce explicit serial numbers. so I am asked for a product name or product id or product number or whatever ... if find the following information on the back of the laptop, using a magnifying glass:

HP 255 G7

6XX0XXX#ABD (again: ist it a zero or the capital letter O? - I couldn't fine out)

however, nothing works: serial nummber correct, product designation invalid.

this has heavy consequences.

the chatbot does not work: it wants to know exactly the kind of information which seems to be incorrect.

if cannot contact hp even after registration because they want to know serial id and product id.

it is not possible to write an e-mail or to fill a form.

the back side of the laptop also says that the "european regulatory address" for this product is hp, boeblingen, germany - a few 10 kms away from me. so greetings to böblingen - maybe my HP 255 G7, formerly used by the bka (german federal office of criminal investigation) and refurbished by a professional provider, is a chinese fake or clone laptop with the silly designation "6XX0XXX#ABD" ...

btw. there IS an official hp site which just wants to know the model itself (HP 255 G7) to provide an bios update file and to check for updated drivers without serial# and product id.

the service, however, is beneath contempt: a maze of websites, non-working web accesses, and the lack of human service personel.

Hi:

I don't know of any HP notebooks that are not made in China.

I have two 255 G7 notebooks and they are both made in China.

The first two letters of the serial number denote the country of manufacture.

If the first two letters of the serial number of your notebook begin with CN, then the notebook was manufactured in China.

The 3 letters after the # sign is the location of the region the PC will be used in.

#ABD = Germany

Mine are both #ABA = United States

Below is the link to the driver page for all 255 G7's.
