My HP ProBook 450 G8 laptop is no longer displaying the desktop screen correctly. Please see the attached image.

I have an idea, but I would like to get the opinion of experts, like those who visit this forum, on how to fix this problem. Thank you in advance for all your comments.

Hello.

Very odd looking, especially the last image since the HP boot logo is shown partly along with Windows login screen.

Please connect your laptop to an external monitor. If the image on external display is fine, the problem likely is with your laptop display panel or the display cable coming from the system board. If the image on external display is also garbled, your system board may have produced a fault.

Run the HP Diagnostics by restarting your computer and keep tapping F2. Run all system, memory, and graphics adapter tests you can find. If you don't have the HP Diagnostics installed, you can download it from here.

Hello,
I followed your instructions exactly as explained in your comment. The other screens display my session correctly, but the screen on my laptop remains unchanged, as you can see in the image—if not worse.
All the diagnostic tests are fine, but I still don’t understand where the problem is coming from. I opened the laptop, disconnected and reconnected all the cables, but nothing changed.

Hello again,

Since the external screen work fine, the problem lies likely within the laptop display panel or with the internal display cable which can break if it is not routed optimally throught the display hinges where it is subject to mechanical wear. You can try gently tugging or moving the display cable while the system is on to see if affects the display.

The display cable is the white cable in your photo, routed around the fan and connected between the memory modules and the fan.

I presume you don't have warranty left? Otherwise contact HP to have it fixed.

Ideally, with another HP 450 G8 you could try swapping parts to pinpoint the problem but since it's probably not an option for you, so at this point I would recommend taking the laptop to a local HP service partner and have them diagnose this hands-on and to give you a quote for repairs.

Display panels are usually quite expensive, so I don't recommend ordering one blindly since the problem may be with the cable. The Maintenance and Service Guide has instructions for doing it yourself, but if you have never disassembled laptops or laptop panels, I wouldn't recommend starting now. The spare part numbers are listed in the guide, and they can be ordered from https://parts.hp.com or many other interner shops - just use Google the parts to get an idea of the prices and availability.
