HP 470 17 inch G10 Notebook PC (772L0AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

As I did years go on my old 470 G3, I would like to activate Battery Health Manager -> Maximize my Battery Health ( https://support.hp.com/hk-en/document/ish_4449597-3519507-16  ) on BIOS of my new 470 G10, in order to limit the charge to 80%, since the PC will be almost always be plugged in. Unfortunately, I only found in BIOS a line “Adaptative Battery Optimizer”, already enabled, without other options (neither an Advanced configuration page).

BIOS is already updated to last version Insyde F.03. I found out that Adaptative Battery Optimizer was introduced in 2020 for home and gaming HP laptop (https://support.hp.com/hk-en/document/c06310986 ), but on business laptop there should be Battery Health Manager, much more efficient and configurable.

Can anyone help me? The issue is important for me since I am a remote worker. I already contacted HP support, but I haven’t already received a satisfactory response.

Hi Sir470.

The problem is that when you bought the old 470 G3 (specs), you bought a Probook 470 G3. However, after the Probook 470 G5 model, HP has removed the "Probook" business specification, and now you purchased a "non-Probook" 470 G10 (specs) laptop. This unfortunately means that, although HP still considers this a "business" system, the BIOS is not at all similar to what you're used to, but instead is that of normal consumer models. If you take a look at the most recent BIOS of the Probook 470 G5 here, you notice that it is also the BIOS for the other Probooks (430, 440, 450). On the other hand, the BIOS you mentioned in your post for your system (as seen here) is shared only with the HP 17 laptops. The Probook 440/450 G10 models have a common and different to yours BIOS. If you read this Notebookcheck review of the older Intel 10th gen HP 17 laptop, you notice that it is considered a cheap and simple office laptop. And it has an appropriate BIOS setup and settings for a cheap office laptop. Unfortunately so does your laptop. To have the kinds of settings you want in your BIOS, you would need to have one of the G10 systems listed on pages 6-8 of the HP PC Commercial BIOS (UEFI) Setup June 2023 paper.

It seems strange that HP support was not able to inform you of this issue, and the difference between your model and the current G10 Probooks/Elitebooks/ZBooks.

Firstly, thank you TzortzisG for your quick and extremely detailed answer! What a big let down... I chose my new PC believing it was same class and had the same reliability as my great seven-year-old 470 G3, and also the price could not lead to think it wasn't. Now I fear that also reliability won't be the same, considering that my PC is switched on for at least 10 hours a day.

Unfortunately, there is no way to "simulate" the charge limit to 80%, because also if I plug out the adapter at 80% charge, PC would drain battery and after a few hours I should plugin it in again.

I noted the lack of "ProBook" prefix from the latest 470 series, but I hadn't found any information on the web about the reasons. Honestly, I think that HP should have more clearly explained the difference. And also the fact that official support has not given me an answer on this is another big let down.

I was also thinking about buying one of these, but then read some articles on serious review sites where they mentioned the terrible firmware. That's when I did a little research and found out that the 470G9/G10 are not actually part of the Probook/Elitebook "pack". Everything you said is pretty much correct. You can manually discharge the battery once a week, but obviously it's not the same thing. To be honest, I love all of the "extra" BIOS settings on the HP business laptops, so I understand exactly how you feel.....

Take care!

The HP Battery Health Manager option is conspicuously absent in the BIOS settings of the HP 470 G10 laptop, as per a user review. This feature, crucial for optimizing battery longevity, seems to be unavailable on the mentioned device. Users seeking battery health  management functionality may need to explore alternative methods or contact HP support for further assistance.

I have refund problem, and it was solved after 1 week. The US bank system is too slow.
