So I left my HP ELITEBOOK 840 G3 laptop yesterday to charge my phone overnight and on turning it on today it doesn't turn on the charging indicator when plugged to the socket is ORANGE. On doing a hard reset (plugging off the charger and removing batter then pressing the power button for 45s) on turning it on, the charging indicator BLINKS ORANGE 10 TIMES and then the lights go off when not connected with a charger and when it is connected nothing turns on except the charging indicator that is always orange. I had install DEBIAN so I'm not sure if the warrant is still valid. HOW CAN I BE ASSISTED.

Hello.

When charger is connected and the battery light is amber (orange), the battery charge is from 0 to 90 percent. If the battery light never changes to white, it may indicate that the power supply is not working properly / the battery is dead / the battery charging logic is faulty.

Always test with all cables/peripherals disconnected.

I would first recommend trying with another HP power supply. Your laptop requires either 45W or 65W power. Any HP power supply with the same size barrel connector and 65W (or more) power will do. If another power supply does not help, try removing your battery with the instructions on the Maintenance and Service Guide for your laptop model. If this helps, order a new battery.

When you try turning on the computer with a working power supply, do the caps lock or power led buttons blink as well? If they do, count the blink codes and check this HP help page.

If you still cannot make the laptop work, the culprit is likely the system board. I recommend contact your local HP Service center and ask for a quote for the repair job.

Installing Debian or any other unsupported OS does not void warranty, but since Elitebook 840 G3 is an 8-year-old model, it is very unlikely that you have a valid warranty at this point anyway.
