Product: HP EliteBook 840 G3
If you have just bought a new-old HP laptop without the original HDD/SSD, you might not be able to update the BIOS. I figured out how to update BIOS in this situation.
1. Download the required BIOS.
2. Create a 'Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\New' folder tree on the USB pendrive
3. Put the BIOS file called N75_xxxx.bin to the New folder.
4. Create a HP_TOOLS partition on a HDD/SSD installed on the notebook
5. You can also create 'Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\New' folder tree on this partition for future reference.
6. Enter BIOS/UEFI and start the update process.
HP tools are using the HDD partition named HP_TOOLS (around 2GB) to update the BIOS.
- without this partition, the BIOS will NOT update at all
- add to your partitioning task the following partition
- no need to assign a letter for that drive, but the name is important
