HP EliteBook 840 G6, W10Pro V21H2 19044.1706
The touchpad on my laptop is very sensitive to the point that sometimes I swear I didn't even touch it. It also occasionally shows other odd/erratic behaviour. The select buttons top and bottom work without any issues.
My system says all drivers are up to date but I came across this post and wonder whether my issue is the same and will be resolved by installing sp113456 Intel Serial IO Driver ? Solved: Elitebook 840 Synaptics Touchpad Not Working Properly - HP Support Community - 7901249
It sounds like it could be the answer but I cant find the driver in device manager and don't want to trash my system.
I would welcome some direction on this please.
Thanks

Hi Ub6424 ..
Has been more 'stable' since the install of that driver version but the next morning windows update put through some Intel updates which had no description other than the updated version number of that Serial Driver. I checked the device manager and the Serial Driver has indeed been updated back to that latest version.
In-spite of that, the touchpad appears to remain stable (and is set to Low Sensitivity) in the settings.
I am happy that you have pointed me in the right direction as to where the issue lay and will continue as is updated. Who knows, reverting and reinstalling that driver may just have reset something.
If it does start playing up again then I will revert to that previous version driver and use the Windows Show Hide update tool to stop it updating.
Thanks again for your guidance and I will mark the issue resolved.

hello,
first of all Create a Restore Point in Windows
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AJWcFRzd7Rw&ab_channel=HPSupport
Second install the required driver, reboot your operating system and test your touchpad:
Direct Download:
https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp98501-99000/sp98559.exe
>don't want to trash my system.
In case something is wrong, you can go back to your restore point, see the sections in the documentation
- Restore your computer when Windows cannot start normally
- Restore your computer when Windows starts normally

Good luck

Fantastic!
Thanks for the concise reply and support Ub6424
I have installed successfully and it seems to be now performing as it should.
I would however like to work with it for a day before I mark the issue Resolved.
That version you gave (sp98559) was an actual downgrade to the installed driver and as is listed (sp113546) on the HP Drivers page for my system. That would indicate the latest version from HP breaks the touchpad functionality.
Many thanks!

Dear Graham_Ashley,
now that your system is "in the mood", please create a Restore Point in Windows
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AJWcFRzd7Rw&ab_channel=HPSupport
Take an eye of your system for a few days and get back to here.
It is my pleasure to help you.
Good luck
best regards
