I got new HP EliteBook 840 G8 with Win 10 and tried to connect Philips 234B1 monitor/display using USB-C cable but the monitor is not detected at all (I doublechecked that USB-C is selected as source on monitor).
When connected via HDMI the picture is shown without issues.
The 840 G8 notebook has been provided to me by company I work for, as part of the policy the BIOS is locked by password and I would like to check if there is some options which can cause this issue. Something like that USB-C is operating in power only mode...
The other thing I want to make work is Daisy chain via Display Port cable with 2nd monitor, but first I need to have the monitor recognized by laptop 🙂
Thank you to provided information / experience with similar issue.
Best regards.

Hello
I tried with my notebook 840 G8 with Intel Graphics card.
I connected a UHD display to USB-C port, I tried both of them.
It works fine
I guess is't not a BIOS setting. in any case if you want to read the settings, you use BiosConfigUtility.exe /Get:840_bcu.txt to have all BIOS settings saved in 840_bcu.txt file. then you can read it.
you find BiosCOnfigUtility here : HP BIOS Configuration Utility | HP Client Management Solutions

Thank you for your action and provided info. Please, can you provide me the info what was the brand and model of the display you used and which worked? Because my Philips 243B1 is not recognized when connected via USB cable to the 840 G8 notebook. To be sure the issue is not cause by cable I used it for connecting the external HDD box and this worked fine. So it seems that the issue is related to the USB-C port on the Philips display... 😞

Hello
my monitor is not sold anymore , it's a HP s270n a 4K monitor.
but all USB-C monitor should work. in my case I had to try with two USB-C cables, not all USB-C are the same.
With one USB-C cable it didn't work, with a second one it was OK, as you can see from the picture.
bye

Did OP get a solution to this? Let's keep in mind that it *might* be a BIOS setting - it might just be on for you, and off for OP. (S)he indicated that the device was locked down by IT.. they might have configured "Video over USB-C" to be "Off" (not confirming that such a setting exists, just that it's possible, and that a paranoid - but correct - IT policy would want to disable any extra surface area that transmits information).

Hello @Vochomurka
Please tell me the full product name and product number (p/n) of your notebook. You will find this information on the back of your notebook printed in small letters.
