HP Elitebook 830 G7 BSOD DRIVER_VERIFIER_DMA_VIOLATION (e6)

I'm seeing a fairly large number of BSOD's on various 830 G7's in my company.  We're on the latest BIOS and pretty up to date on our drivers.  The bugcheck is: DRIVER_VERIFIER_DMA_VIOLATION (e6)

 

Says it's a driver fault, but we can't tell which one.  Anyone else been seeing BSOD's on these laptops?

Hello

 

you should check if the BSOD creare memory dump.

if you find memory dumo, you can use a dumo analyzer to find whichi is the driver following this web instruction https://www.windowscentral.com/how-open-and-analyze-dump-error-files-windows-10

 

in order to know if you are using latest driver suggested by HP, use HP Image Assistant.

Yes, we've analyzed several crash dumps.  From what we can tell, it's got something to do with USBXHCI.sys driver however that's a Windows out of box driver (not provided by HP.  It could be something that hangs off of the Intel Extensible Host Controller (USBXHCI).  What's odd is that we have many makes and models of laptops and this is only one that seems to be having this issue.  Very odd.  One other person in these forums has reported this so maybe we're not alone.  

 

Yes, been down the path with HPIA and trying various drivers to see which one might be the culprit.  We have nearly 50,000 830 G7's deployed and in the last 60 days we've had 21,317 BSODs on 2,562 830 G7's.  Now that's only about 5% of our deployed machines, so why just those?  

 

Anyway, the search continues.

Hello

 

I heard about a similar case , issue with USBXHCI.sys , I would suggest these two test.

first try to update the Realtek USB driver, using softpaq sp113830.exe https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp113501-114000/sp113830.exe

 

if that doesn't solve

try this

go in Device Manager , select Thunderbolt controllor properties, select "Power Management  Option" then clear the setting "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".  this means that thunderbolt Controller never go to sleep".

 

Let the "forum" knows if one of these two actions fix your issue.

Yeah, we already have that driver out there and I confirmed on one of the problem machines that it did indeed have this driver. We also started disabling that sleep setting as part of our workstation build process back in June/July, but this particular machine was built before that and did not have this setting disabled.  I've disabled it on the user's machine and we'll see what happens.  However I know that some of the machines have been built more recently and 'should' have this setting, but it's something I can verify.

For USB Relatek LAN driver , check if the version is at least 1.43
