Microsoft Windows 11

My HP elitebook 840G5 has the Synaptics Clickpad. I have been experiencing issues with the touchpad for about two or three weeks...Sometime it works and others donot. Sometime reboot and/or shutdown fixed issue, other time no luck.

From Windows device manager shows below for the "I2C HID Device" when the trackpad stops working. Screenshot below as well.

"This device cannot start. (Code 10)

A request for the HID descriptor failed."

I have tried to remove drivers (I2C, Synaptics and Intel Serial IO) and reinstall with the latest version from HP for windows 11; I tried with hardware troubleshooter in Windows 11...The only "reliable" fix I found so far is to put the laptop in sleep by closinig the lid and then open it up. The trackpad would kinda work but very slow moving. I then manually disabled and enabled “I2C HID Device” within the windows Device Manager which brought the touchpad back to life…

Any other suggestion OR this is a known issue with Windows 11?

Hello,

(1) take a look at the bios settings (ESC/F1 F10 on startup) if the touchpad device is enabled.

(2) After loading windows operating system, check the device manager for any touchpad related entries and uninstall them, reboot your system.

(3) Go to HP Partsurfer:

https://partsurfer.hp.com/partsurfer/

Enter your serial there to see what touchpad model is possibly installed.

(4) Check HP Support Site for Driver and Software and choose the right touchpad driver for the right operating system you're using.

https://support.hp.com/us-en

(5) Install the required driver and reboot your system

(6) Check windows device manager and windows settings of touchpad and test it...

(7) If you are not lucky 😞 the touchpad could be damaged/defective or the electronic wiring and connections of the touchpad to the mainbard are not correct/broken/have come loose ... please check additionally

(8) No luck ? Contact HP Support directly ...
