2. Problem Manifestation:
The laptop frequently fails to wake its display from a sleep (suspend) state. This issue occurs when the laptop lid is closed and then reopened after a short period (approximately 1-2 minutes or more).
3. Observed Symptoms:
- No Display Output: Upon opening the lid, the screen remains completely black. There is no backlight, no image, and no cursor.
- System Appears to be Running: The laptop's power button remains illuminated (lit up, not blinking), indicating that the system is powered on and running.
- Power Button Response (Partial): A single press of the power button causes it to begin blinking, but the screen remains off.
- Required Action to Recover: The only way to restore display functionality and regain control of the system is to perform a forced shutdown by holding down the power button for several seconds. After this forced shutdown, the laptop reboots normally, and the display functions correctly until the next sleep cycle.
4. Frequency and Consistency:
This issue is intermittent but occurs frequently enough to be disruptive. It has happened multiple times and appears to be consistently triggered by closing the lid and letting the system enter a sleep state before attempting to wake it shortly thereafter.
5. Troubleshooting Steps Already Taken:
- Checked for and installed all available updates via HP Support Assistant, including BIOS/UEFI firmware, AMD Graphics Driver (Radeon 660M), and AMD Chipset Driver.
- Manually checked for and installed the latest BIOS/UEFI firmware, AMD Radeon Graphics Driver, and AMD Chipset Driver from the official HP support website for this specific model (EliteBook 845 G9, AMD Ryzen 5 PRO-6650U).
- Ensured Windows 11 Pro is fully updated through Windows Update, including any optional driver updates.
