HP EliteBook 860 16 inch G9 Notebook PC (4C153AV)

Hey all,

we as a Company got a few months ago a big Batch of Elitebook 860 G9 Notebooks.

I, as one of the persons in our company who is testing out these notebooks,  realized BIG problems with these G9 Notebooks.

Once I started to start my Default OS-Installation all of the Software we use at Company, i realized that the Notebooks Fans went CRAZY loud. And with crazy i mean it was easily hearable in my office. It started to be even annoying.

So I started to some tests.

And after some tests I realized a big Problem, which made me shocked.

Once I was hitting ~20% CPU Usage, i realized my CPU Package Temperature hit 99°C in 2 SECONDS. Im not even exaggerating this. Once this Notebooks gets some CPU usage, it hits 99°C as CPU Temp, and then instantly starts to thermal throttle the CPU Frequency to save the Notebook from Dying.

Did HP not pre-test these Notebooks for Thermal Throttle Problems? Its not like that im having high CPU Usage. 20% is enough to make it hit 100°C which should NEVER be the case. Thermal Throttle would be understandable at 100% CPU Usage, but not at 20%.

In this Screenshot you can see that after only having 19% CPU Usage, that the  CPU Package hit 99°C and we thermal throttled!

And yes, i have updated ALL possible drivers. From CPU Chipset to all possible Intel Drivers, and also the latest BIOS from End of November which should "- Updates the thermal management algorithm to improve fan noise." according to HP. This was not the truth ofc in my case.

I also run Cinebench R23 on my 860 G9, to compare the CPU Performance to other Notebooks which use the same CPU.

My HP Notebook 860 G9:

Now if we compare this to another company Notebook with Same CPU (Acer Swift 5):

If we compare both, the HP one is 61% slower! (3273 Points difference) on Multicore

Single Core is also very slow with 50% less performance!!

This is not acceptable.

And Since my company is HP certified partner, we also checked the CPU Cooler and the Thermal Paste if it was applied right:

In my opinion the amount of thermal paste is not a problem here. I rather think the CPU cooler is not adequate enough to cool this i7-1260P. The cooling is so thin, i cant believe how these are even getting sold in this way.

To confirm this is not a special case with this specific Notebook, we tried 2 other 860 G9 Notebooks (since we bought like 20 of these in one batch) and these 2 also show the same issue! Fans are speeding to MAX RPM once u hit low CPU Usage.

I saw some other posts of HPs G9 Series that these people also have loud fan noises. Is it possible that HP didnt enough Checks for Intels latest 12th Gen CPUs and the cooling isnt good enough?

I can not distribute these Notebooks to our company members since this is not usable.

Any ideas? Any official info from HP about this?

Thanks

Furkan
