HP Elitebook Folio G1: Can I replace the currently installed SATA SSD by a NVMe SSD?

I read some reviews in which the reviewer reportedly found an NVMe SSD installed in their HP Elitebook Folio G1. So is it actually possible to use NVMe SSD drives in the HP Elitebook Folio G1?

@loupiote -- is this your computer: HP EliteBook Folio 1040 G1 Notebook PC Product Specifications | HP® Customer Support

It seems to be dated from 2014, and was available with Windows XP/Vista/7.

So, I doubt that the motherboard was designed with NVME support included.

Thanks. I guess the question is whether the connector is compatible.

My Sata SSD is: https://harddiskdirect.com/sd8sn8u-512g-1006-sandisk-ssd.html
Connector has 2 notches

The NVMe connector only has one notch:

https://www.amazon.com/Silicon-Power-NVMe-Gen3x4-SP001TBP34A60M28/dp/B07ZGJVTZK

Anyone knows if the connector is compatible? Or should I remove the current drive and check before getting a NVMe SSD?

no, as i said mine is HP EliteBook Folio G1 (no 1040!)

It is 2016 and came with Win10.

yeah, i opened mine too, connector has only one notch indeed. So now i just have to try putting a NVMe SSD and see if it gets recognized, I guess...!

It should be working

Success!!!

I was able to replace my 512GB SanDisk SATA SSD by a 2TB Crucial NVMe SSD (https://www.crucial.com/ssd/p2/ct2000p2ssd8 ), and was able to restore my Win 10 system and complete environment, data files etc on the new drive. I was well worth the effort.
I now have (almost) 2TB of SSD disk space on this great little machine. The new SSD is about 4-5 times faster in sequential read/write.

Maybe next I should change the battery, I think it is getting old and would only hold charge for 3-4h at the most.

....and install Win 11 (I know it is not officially supported but I bet it will work just fine).

well done

bye
