On my EliteBook 830 G8, whenever I try to boot, it says "HP Endpoint Security Controller Problem" There is a problem with the HP Endpoint Security Controller on the unit. Please contact HP Inc. to have the unit serviced. However, I can hit escape or enter to boot normally. Any ideas how to fix?

Hi,

This does not look like a normal Windows issue. The HP Endpoint Security Controller is related to HP’s hardware/firmware security features, so if the warning appears before Windows starts, it is most likely a BIOS/firmware or system board security controller issue.

You can try the following safe checks first:

  1. Back up your important data.
  2. If BitLocker is enabled, make sure you have the BitLocker recovery key before making BIOS/firmware changes.
  3. Update the BIOS to the latest version available from the official HP support page for the exact EliteBook 830 G8 model/product number.
  4. After the BIOS update, enter BIOS Setup using F10, load BIOS defaults, save, and restart.
  5. Run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI from the startup menu and check whether any system board, firmware, or security controller error is reported.
  6. If HP Support Assistant or the HP support page offers any firmware/security-related updates for this model, install only the official HP updates.

Since you are still able to press Esc or Enter and boot normally, the system is not fully blocked yet, but I would not ignore the warning. If the message continues after the BIOS/firmware update and diagnostics, the unit may require HP service or system board/security controller servicing.

I would not recommend using unofficial BIOS or firmware tools for this issue, because it could make the device unbootable.

Hope this helps.
