HP Envy 13 Notebook ab00
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

My HP Envy 13 Notebook was lagging while i was working so I went to task manager to close some background apps. Inside task manager, I scrolled down to windows processes and closed something there(I'm not familiar with the name or what is there). After that I noticed my Keyboard backlight stopped working, even when I press the F5 button that normally controls the backlight.

Please how do i fix this?

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

Let's perform BIOS default:

  1. Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
  2. Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
  3. On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
  4. Press F10 to Save and Exit.
  5. Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
  6. Follow the prompts to restart your computer.

Keep me posted for further assistance.

I followed the steps you outlined and did everything there but It didn't work...the backlight still doesn't come on when I press the backlight key, f5.
