HP Envy +360 Convertible
Microsoft Windows 11

I have an HP Envy convertible.  This laptop is connected to power virtually ALL the time.  I use it as my main business computer but have it as a laptop for the occasional travel.  Since day 1, at apparently random intervals, the system will "detect" that the battery power is nearing 0% and will shut down the computer.  No warnings. In fact, I have visually seen that the battery indicator icon is showing 100% immediately before this occurs.  I keep it on a cooling tray so it's not an overheat problem, but it is both turned on and plugged in virtually 24/7/365.  About 50% of the time when I repower the laptop, it will quickly shutdown again.  Every time, it will eventually return to exactly where I was previously without losing any files.  But again randomly, some times the files are "recovered" documents.  The recovery has become repeatable, but the frequency seems to be increasing and it NEVER happens when I just happen to have one file unsaved or am staring blankly at the screen pondering life. The disruption is becoming unacceptable.  Finally, I've been "recharging" now for about 10 minutes and after showing 0% on power up it is already to 74% charged.  Also, I have run the battery diagnostics and the battery is showing as "normal".  I can't be the only person with this experience, but oddly I can't seem to find any reports of the same scenario.  Thoughts?

Hi@FlaAl1980,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.Apologies for all the inconvenience. Request you to follow the below troubleshooting steps

Check for the BIOS update ?

Check for the windows update ?

I have a few steps listed below that should help you resolve this concern:

Unplug the charge and use the laptop until the battery drains to 15%.

Turn off the laptop and turn it back on after 30mins.

Reinstalled Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery under device manager:

1) In the search box, type and open “Device Manager”.

2) Expand “Batteries”.

3) Right-click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed there.

4) Click on “Uninstall”.

5) At the prompt put a check in the box to remove the current driver

6) Shutdown the computer.

7) Remove the battery for minute and then put it back in.

😎 When the computer comes back up it should automatically find the driver.

9) Go to Device Manager.

10) Expand Batteries.

11) Right-click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed there.

12) Click "Search automatically for updated driver software"

Do the same thing with Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Embedded Controller.

Restart the computer and the issue should be fixed.
