Hello @koberg

We need to check CPU and GPU temperatures ...

(1CPU

Download, install and start <Open Hardware Monitor>

https://openhardwaremonitor.org/

--->>> take screenshot after a few minutes <idle / do nothing>

(2GPU

Download, install and start <GPU-Z>

https://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/

- click tab [sensors]

- Remember to select the right graphics chip/card on bottom

hello @Ub6424,

thank you so far, I got all the screenshots and a video where you can see how the fans are going up and down in idle.

the fan speed is changing from 925 RPM to over 2800 RPM in idle / doing nothing. All driver and Bios are up to date.

Hello @koberg

Thanks for providing the data ...

(1) There is a combined problem: BIOS <-> Sensor <-> Fan

The fan's running behavior is very unusual. Either HP has to provide a new BIOS version or a service repair is required.

(2) You wrote: " - ssd around 63 C° <- this is to hot for a normal idle, is it? "

It's too hot. Have you checked if there is a firmware update for the SSD drive ?

Kind regards

Hi Koberg

- The fan speed "jumps" from like 945 RPM to 2800 RPM and back to a lower number and this is noticeable.

This "jumps" shouldn't be there, how can I manually set a better fan curve???

Have you tried FAN ALWAYS ON in BIOS to at least get more steady fan behaviour?

- ssd around 63 C° <- this is to hot for a normal idle, is it?

These are actually gaming SSD temps and definitely NOT OK for idle... Usual idling temps for pci express SSDs are around 50ish.

hi TzortzisG,

I tried the fan always ON enabled and disabled - no effect.

I think the SSD temperatures are ok for now after firmware update, I'll see this tomorrow after some use.

hello Ub6424,

Koberg, I reposted my original post in the beginning of the thread. You were asking here and on reddit about controlling the fan curve.... (https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-Notebooks/HP-G9-Firefly-LOUD-FAN-almost-always-running/m-p/84...)

Hello @koberg

good to hear and keep me updated ...

Good luck

I have a similar problem with my HP Firefly 14 G9 notebook. The fan goes on and off every few seconds (as shown in your youtube video) when no applicaiton is running and when I open more than one or two applications, the fan constantly runs at about 2.800, even if idle - I only took the screenshot but did nothing else. I contacted HP support who told me to update Bios and all drivers - which I already did, but with no effect.

Would be glad to find a solution for this problem.

Hi Thomas1789, glad I'm not alone.

There is a way to change the constant fan RPM to around 2500. First you got to got the BIOS and set "Fan always on" on enabled, then the notebook will run around 2500 RPM if cable operated ... it's slightly better than 2800 RPM, but still noticeable.

Operating with battery you get sometimes 970 RPM.

Maybe "Notebook Fan Control" could be the solution, but I can't get it to work for now - shout out to TzortzisG, still trying.

...or HP could deliver an update.
