Hi everyone, I'm looking for my second HP laptop I saved about $350 over 13 years, and I'll tell you about a brief experience I had with HP, and if you recommend I buy another one. My first laptop was an old HP from around 2016. It had a Celeron dual-core processor, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of eMMC storage. It was very basic. I installed Ubuntu on it, and it served me well for a while. I'm now thinking of buying an HP Probook 445 G6. It has an AMD Ryzen 5 3500U, 8GB of DDR4 RAM, a 256GB NVMe M.2 SSD, an FHD IPS screen, one USB-C port with DP and PD, a backlit keyboard, a fingerprint sensor, an original charger, and is in very good overall condition. What do you guys say? I want something for programming in Linux.

Hi @fatanraja,

The HP ProBook 445 G6 you are considering is a significant upgrade over your previous laptop. The specifications of the ProBook 445 G6, including an AMD Ryzen 5 3500U processor, 8GB of DDR4 RAM, and a 256GB NVMe SSD, offer much better performance compared to your old HP laptop.

Key Improvements:

  1. Processor: The AMD Ryzen 5 3500U is a quad-core processor that provides better multitasking capabilities and performance, which should be a noticeable improvement from the Celeron dual-core processor in your previous laptop.
  2. RAM: With 8GB of DDR4 RAM, this laptop can handle more demanding applications and multitasking with ease compared to the 4GB RAM in your old setup.
  3. Storage: The 256GB NVMe SSD offers faster read/write speeds, ensuring quicker boot times and application loading compared to the 64GB eMMC storage.

Recommendation:

Given the significant performance improvements in the HP ProBook 445 G6, it would likely serve your needs well if you require a laptop for general computing tasks such as browsing, office applications, and moderate multitasking. However, ensure that this model fits within your budget after accounting for your savings.

I'm an HP Employee.
