I have a HP ProBook 4540s.  It's about 15 years old with Windows 10 Pro and I cannot remember the password to the Desktop.  Password recovery option states, NO DRIVE This feature requires removable media such as a USB Flash Drive. I do not have a recovery disk USB Flash Drive to reset the password. How can I reset my password?

Hi @HugoJefe

Password Reset using a Microsoft Account:

  1. Microsoft Account Users: If you use a Microsoft account to log into your device, you can reset the password online through Microsoft’s Password Reset Page.

  2. On-Screen Instructions: Follow the instructions on the screen to update your password. If this is successful, you can use the new password to log into your computer.

Local Account Password Recovery:

If you are using a local account, the process is a bit more involved:

  1. Use Another Admin Account: If there is another administrative account on the computer, you can log into that account to change the password of your account.

  2. Use Safe Mode:

    • Restart your computer and press F8 repeatedly before the Windows logo appears.
    • Select Safe Mode and log in as an administrator.
    • Navigate to Control Panel > User Accounts and change the password for your account.
  3. Reset with Command Prompt:

    • Access another computer to download a password reset tool like Offline NT Password & Registry Editor.
    • Create a bootable USB using the tool as per instructions on their website.
    • Boot your HP ProBook 4540s from the USB by changing the boot order in BIOS settings.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions provided by the tool to reset the password.
