HP Universal USB-C Multiport Hub
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi all

I have been provided with an HP ProBook 630G8 by work, its an i7/16GB/512GB/FHD model. I have supplied my own monitors as I have 4K monitors (1 Lenovo, 1 Dell & 1 Samsung - I will only use 2, preferably the Samsung & Lenovo so I can take the Dell home as it has no VESA mount)

I orginally had an HP Elite USB-C dock when I had 1080p monitors however I found out it was not dual 4k compatible, I brought in a dual 4K dock from home which would only work in 4K with one monitor, however power delivery worked with the 100w USB-C power adapter I have - on this dock however the ethernet connection would frequntly drop.

I found the HP 50H55AA multiport dock which says on the box it supports dual 4k & power delivery - perfect.

However, when I got it, I was using the Dell & Samsung monitor - 1 via HDMI, 1 via DP to HDMI adapter - they both worked in 4K which was great, although PD didn't work and I still had to plug a charger into the laptop - the whole point of a dock for me is to have 1 connection.

I have since purchased a Lenovo 28" 4K monitor so I can mount both my monitors as the Dell doesn't have VESA and the adapter I purchased doens't sit in the right place.

Once I swapped to the Lenovo, dual 4K stopped working - no matter the cable combination and different cables, I cannot get dual 4K with this set up and am now having to plug the dock, power AND HDMI into the laptop every time I come and go from the office.

HP tried to tell me that PD & Dual 4k were not supported (despite the spec sheet showing otherwise) then talked me through some BIOS changes to no avail.

I have to say, I am disappoionted in the ProBook line - as a business laptop it just doesn't perform for the price, especially with no ethernet port built in - the last company I worked for had the EliteBook range and the mechanical dock worked every time (although I didn't have 4K then) but at least it was solid and reliable.
