HP Thunderbolt Dock G2 with Combo Cable

My recently acquired HP G2 Thunderbolt 230w dock with combo cable powers my HP Elitebook 840 G8 notebook but none of the display ports, or USB A ports work or are recognised. In fact my notebook doesn't recognise the docking station. I have the up to date firmware and drivers installed.

Any advice most welcome. Thank you.

Hello.

Have you tried both of the Thunderbolt ports in your laptop? Do the ports work with any other USB-C or Thunderbolt device?

Does the dock provide power when you only connect the USB-C cable withouth the extra power cable?

Check that your laptop's USB-C ports are working in Thunderbolt mode. Thunderbolt mode is configured in BIOS settings -> Advanced -> Port Options. (if I remember correctly).

Also, in Windows the Fn+ESC combo should bring up the HP System Information window, and the USB Type-C Ports button will show whether Thunderbolt is enabled or not.

Also make sure you are using the power supply that was supplied with the Thunderbolt dock.

Jupitero - many thanks for this help and guidance. I need to check on another USB C enabled laptop as well as whether the USB C ports are Thunderbolt enabled, really valid points and thank you.
