ELITEBOOK 840 G7
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have recently been provided with a new laptop from work, a HP Elitebook 840 G7. However, it is the responsibility of the employee to provide their own docking station if they wish to use one for home working and so I have purchased a HP USB-C Dock G4. I have connected the two via a thunderbolt cable and connected my monitor, ethernet, keyboard and mouse.

The keyboard and mouse are working perfectly, as is the ethernet port. The laptop is also charging. However, the monitor is not working over displayport.

When I look in display settings, I can see the monitor and my laptop screen, so the monitor is being detected. When I unplug and reconnect the displayport connector, I can see "display 2" disconnecting and reconnecting, so it is clear that the laptop can see the screen (including its resolution and refresh rate).

However, there is no picture on the screen, it is just a plain black screen. I have no idea why this is and I don't know how to make it work. I have tried restarting and unplugging everything, but nothing seems to be working at the moment.

Thanks in advance!

The  HP USB-C® Dock G4 (discontinued) 3FF69AA is not compatible with HP Elitebook 840 G7. That may cause the problem; the HP USB-C® Dock G5 dock is.

Thanks for your response. I can't understand why it wouldn't be compatible though. Ethernet and USB work fine and the laptop is detecting that the monitor is there. Given that a cheap dock from amazon would probably work, I can't see why the G4 wouldn't. Is there a specific reason why it is not compatible?

As you know, laptops and computers in general have new feature/technology every second week therefore old accessories could be outdated/obsoleted.
