HP USB-C G5 Docking Station with External Power Supply

Dear Community,

I have bought following Docking Station:

HP USB-C Dock G5 Dockingstation W21-JY3319

It came with a Power Supply of:

Output: 19.5V and 6.15A (120W )

This is just enough for my Business Laptop (HP Elitebook)

However I also have a Gaming Laptop (HP Victus) which has following power supply:

Output: 19.5V and 10.3A (200W)

Both Laptops has Thunderbolt USB-C connection. I would like to know, if I can use the Power Supply of my gaming laptop (200W) with the Docking Station without doing any damage and if the Docking Station can handle such power (200W).

I would appreciate any information / opinions on this.

Hello

USB-C Docking can't provide power more than 75W/100W (see note below). I can't damage the Dock as when you connect it to your HP Victus, a protocol starts between PC and Dock, to understand each other capability.

So it could happens that Dock will not charge to HP Victus or will under charge it up to the maximum power provided by the dock, in any case it will not be damaged.

USB-C Dock G5 Note:

Up to 100W via USB-C® (up to 75W on non HP machines) Separate AC power needed for HP ZBooks that require more than 100W power delivered via USB-C alt mode.

Thank you for your opinion. Finally, I am powering my gaming laptop separately and its working fine. Of course it would be much nicer to have one power cord lesser but I can live with this setup.
