HP G5 USB-C Docking station
Microsoft Windows 11

I have 2 HP laptops. One from work and one my personal. The work one is HP EliteBook 835 G7 and the personal one is 255 G8.  I have a USB-C G5 Docking station which works pretty well with my G7. I tried connecting the same Docking station with G8. The external mouse and keyboard are working fine but the monitors are not getting detected. The same issue for displayport and HDMI. Whenever I connected the docking station with monitors, I get a pop up saying "Display connection might be limited. Make sure the display port device you are connecting to is supported by your PC"

I followed through the instructions on clicking on the pop up and none of them helped.

Is there a way to use this docking station with 255 G8?

I found a useful resource that you can go through to help with the problem.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/fix-usb-c-problems-in-windows-f4e0e529-74f5-cdae-3194-43...

Go through it and see if it helps.

Keep me posted on the results,

Hello

USB-C port of 255 G8 is different than the one of 835 G7.

835 G7 USB-C port has more features: Power Delivery and Video Alternate Mode. This means that USB-Dock can provide power to the notebook and the netebook is able to send video information to docking and see them on the monitors connected to docking.

255 G8 USB-C port is a simple USB port able to use only USB devices connected to the docking. Monitors can't be driven by 255 G8 USB-C port as it's missing Video Alternate mode feature.

Also Power to the notebook can't be  provided via USB-C Dock G5 Docking as the 255 G8 power is not able to use Power Delivery feature.

in another words 255 G8 USB-C port is like a USB 3.X port with an USB-C connector.

Sometime you can read that this kind of USB-C porta are able to send USB data only. no Video, no power.

bye
