HP USB-c docking station G5

hello, I have a HP USB-C Dock G5 which I would like to use with my iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2017) Mac OS Monterey. Is it safe to do so? also, do I need to use the dock with the power supply or can I just plug it in directly to my thunderbolt port?

I am pretty sure that i had read that the MacBook Pro was also compatible...i don~t know if i can use it on my iMac...hence the question...thank you for you help and answer though...
