After a shutdown I got the error message "ME State Recovery Mode" and my Z-Book tries to start again. The HP logo appears followed by the error message. I can enter the BIOS and boot my Linux Mint System, but I can't do a shutdown. So I wanted to update my BIOS but I can't find a BIOS file on the HP website.

Thank you for reaching out!
The "ME State Recovery Mode" error typically indicates an issue with the Intel Management Engine (ME) firmware, which can sometimes occur if the firmware update didn't complete or if there is a corruption.
Here are some steps you can take to resolve the issue:
-
Check for BIOS and Firmware Updates:
- Visit the HP Support website and search for your HP Z-Book 15 G2 model.
- Although you mentioned not finding the BIOS file, it's important to double-check the support section and ensure you're selecting the correct operating system version.
- Look for any available firmware or BIOS updates that might address the ME firmware issue.
-
Perform a Hard Reset:
- Turn off the computer and disconnect all peripherals.
- Remove the AC adapter and the battery if possible.
- Hold down the power button for 15-20 seconds.
- Reconnect the battery and AC adapter, then try to start the computer again.
-
Attempt BIOS Recovery:
- If your machine supports BIOS recovery, check if you can perform a BIOS recovery operation, usually available through key combinations during boot-up, which might restore the functionality.
-
Use HP PC Hardware Diagnostics:
- If accessible, use the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics tool to diagnose the hardware for any faults that might be affecting the ME firmware.
-
Contact HP Support:
- If the above steps do not resolve the issue, contact HP Support for further assistance. They can provide more detailed guidance or inform you of any service options.
It's crucial to keep your BIOS and firmware updated, as it fixes bugs and vulnerabilities and may help resolve this issue.
Please keep us posted if this helps or if you need any additional assistance.
