Hi.

My HP ZBOOK G5 keeps turning off the screen after 1 minute regardless of what power option I set inside Windows 11.  Just now my laptop is set to best performance under power options. Screen off after 1 hour. hibernate after 3 hours. (It is not running on battery.). Still, after 1 minute it turns the screen off. Also my external monitor is going off. I am using thunderbolt connection to my monitor trough a switch with displayport output.

Anyone have any ide of what to do?

@Hermod, Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the HP ZBOOK G5.

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution. We hope our assistance has been helpful!

If your HP ZBook G5 screen keeps turning off after one minute despite your power settings, there are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and correct the issue:

  1. Check Advanced Power Settings:

    • Open Control Panel and navigate to Power Options.
    • Click on Change plan settings next to your active power plan.
    • Select Change advanced power settings.
    • In the list, expand Display and ensure that the Turn off display after setting is set to your preference.
    • Make sure settings in Sleep like hibernate and hard disk are also correctly configured.
  2. Check Lock Screen Settings:

    • Go to Settings > Personalization > Lock Screen.
    • Click on Screen timeout settings and adjust the Screen and sleep settings as necessary to match your power plan.
  3. Update Drivers and Firmware:

    • Ensure all drivers, especially the graphics driver, are up to date. Use HP's support site or the HP Support Assistant to download and install the latest drivers.
    • Check if there are any updates available for your Thunderbolt dock or switch, and install them.
  4. Review Screensaver Settings:

    • Ensure there isn’t a screensaver configured that matches the one-minute timeout. Check this by searching “Screensaver” in Cortana and setting it to "None" or a longer period.
  5. Disable Display in BIOS:

    • Check your BIOS settings and ensure that there are no specific settings that override Windows for display-off behavior. You can access BIOS by pressing F10 at startup.
  6. Verify Connections:

    • Check all your connections:
      • Ensure the Thunderbolt cable is securely connected.
      • Try a different port or cable to see if the issue persists.
  7. Hardware Reset:

    • Perform a hardware reset for your dock (if applicable) by unplugging it, waiting 5 seconds, and plugging it back in.
  8. Test without the Dock:

    • Connect the monitor directly to the laptop bypassing the Thunderbolt dock or switch to see if the issue lies within those devices.

I hope this helps!

Take care and have an amazing day!
