Opened laptop today at 6:40 am. It's at 73% battery and power selection favors the Best Battery Life side. Around an hour later it's down to 47% and I change the power selection to the most battery saving option. By 9:50 am, two hours later, it is at 8%, and it shuts down completely at 8%. Won't work until it's plugged back in.
I had writing software and Microsoft Edge running. I also have an instant messaging service. I wasn't watching videos, youtube, or anything intensive. The major battery eaters appear to be Edge at 66%, my writing software at 16%, and my instant messaging app at 3%.
Got this brand new ZBook on Friday from Amazon. Is the battery faulty?

Hello @probono35
You may test your battery and calibrate it as per the instructions here >> https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04700771
Wi-Fi takes a lot of battery resources. Edge (powered by Chrome) is resource hungry, try a different browser.
Not sure what this writing software is (that you mention)
Under some circumstances, the battery may last 4 hours, it really depends on what you have been doing, wi-fi, display brightness, some settings, etc
- I strongly recommend that you check this HP article and follow the steps >> https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01297640
- Consider going to the BIOS/UEFI and adjusting the Battery Health Manager to "Let HP manage my battery charging"
- Check this article, too >> https://www.pcmag.com/how-to/how-to-increase-your-laptop-battery-life
Hope this helps 😉
