HP ZBook Firefly 14 inch G10 A Mobile Workstation PC (752N3AV)

Hello,

I have a problem with NVMe disk WD PC [Personal Information Removed] on HP ZBook Firefly 14 inch G10 A Mobile Workstation PC.

Disk controller is disconnecting after 1-2 suspend cycles or connect disconnect on Thunderbolt docking station.

I using Ubuntu Linux and tried kernels 6.5.0-14-generic or latest mainline kernel 6.7.0-060700-generic.

In addition I tried recommendation from kernel error log and added kernel parameters "nvme_core.default_ps_max_latency_us=0 pcie_aspm=off".

But I receiving still same error:

Jan 14 14:17:09 marvin kernel: [52934.215144] nvme nvme0: controller is down; will reset: CSTS=0xffffffff, PCI_STATUS=0x10

From other similar issues on disks from other vendors it seems to Firmware error on disk controller.

Can I ask for some help please?

Thanks

Hello.

I recommend asking this question in Ubuntu forums as well (or another technical Linux forum). Your AMD system platform is pretty new and you may have hit a software bug instead.

NVMe drives do not use traditional disk controllers, the controller is in the NVMe card itself. NVMe drives do receive firmware updates, but HP doesn't seem to have anything available. If WD has lately released firmware updates that have fixes to these sort of problems, HP may soon follow with their firmware version as well. Does WD have release notes information? In that case I would contact HP directly and escalate the issue.

I recommend updating the BIOS and also the Thunderbolt dock firmware in any case before going further with this.
