HP ZBook G3
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am trying to get the virtialization enabled on my laptop for use in Docker.

I have enabled it in BIOS and it shows as checked.

I checked in Task Manager and it shows as Virtualization enabled

But when I try to launch Dockert tool box it is giving error

"This Computer doesn't have VT-X/AMD-V enabled. Enabling it in the BIOS is mandatory"

When I check through command line

wmic cpu get VirtualizationFirmwareEnabled - it is returning false

I read some forums and was told some bug in the registry is causing it but don't recommend any solution.

Any solutions?

Thanks

You have Windows 10 Pro right?

I have a Zbook G3 running Win 10 Pro and VT is enabled:

Virtualization enabledVirtualization enabled

I will check my BIOS settings if you wish

There's two different VTx settings in BIOS;

- Virtualization Technology (VTx)

- Virtualization Technology for Directed I/O (VTd)

Try updating BIOS.

Both the boxes are checked.

Can you please cgheck your BIOS and let me know if the VTX/VTD option is checked but greyed out

Thanks

Checked my BIOS...VTx and VTDd are two separate check boxes. I had Vtx checked but not Vtd and both were not greyed out. I checked VtD as well and rebooted with no change. I am not running any software on this laptop that requires virtualization. I run a Linux virtual machine on my smaller travel laptop using Virtualbox so I know virtualization is also possible on it.

What processor do you have? I have the i7-6700HQ. I had thought any processor offered on the Zbook G3, from i5 to Xeon can do virtualization.

I have VTx-Amdv checked but not greyout. The machines who have the above setting when you check

wmic cpu get VirtualizationFirmwareEnabled - will get false.

There is some virtulaization security opt-out option when you boot makes the vtx/amdv checked and greyout.

I don't know how to trigger opt out virtulaization security question that to make it greyed out, so I can use the virtualization

Thanks
