HP Zbook 15 G2 Overheating

Good evening,

I recently started a separate thread in which I enquired about upgrading a Zbook 15 G2 into QHD, but then noted how the device I received was overheating and had to send it back.

Fast forward a month and I have the same issue, only with the second Zbook 15 G2 I have bought - a separate unit with a different CPU (this one has a 4910MQ vs 4810MQ, I also got it slightly cheaper which is nice) but the same over-heating issue in which the CPU can reach temperatures of 99C whilst just installing some Windows 10 updates. I am using HWMonitor to check temps, I also installed an open-source temperature monitoring programme that provided the same results (although it might be using the same readings/api or what have you).

I sent back the other device, then got word from the owner that he had cleaned the heatsink/fan and the device was working OK again. Having contacted him today, he said he has since sold it without complaint. I trust him and the guy I bought from, both have good feedback on eBay and I got a full refund previously... But I wonder whether the new owner doesn't notice it, or something similar. 

So I guess I am wondering whether this is a common issue in Zbooks? The prior owner of the device I received today said it was running fine in Windows 7 64 without any issue, he did not notice heat issues. The device was recently PAT tested and passed without any issue, in case that might be relevant or useful. Also something else I noticed when formatting the device and putting the most recent Windows ISO on (1903 vs 1703), is that the device did not feel particularly hot or slow during that process. I wondered whether it was due to drivers or something similar, and am minded to try installing Windows 7 to check there.... Of course I could also open it up and clean the heatsink/fan.

Thanks - whist monitoring the temps I have been keeping an eye on usage and everything seems normal on that front.

Think I am going to take it to a repair shop and get it cleaned out, new thermal paste and all that - should fix the temp issue.
