Microsoft Windows 11

Dear all,

For my work I recently acquired a brand new HP probook 450 G9. To optimize my working in the office I ordered a HP USB-C G5 dock to go with the laptop. However, whenever I use the docking station, I get the message:

"HP recommends an HP power supply"

Also the battery does not charge and even seems to discharge faster than under normal conditions.

Obviously the docking station came with an HP powersupply of 120W that matches the input of the G5 dock as well as the laptop. So far I have tried the following:

- When I use the charger directly, the laptop charges just fine.

- I have used a different charger and different docking station of a colleague (same brand and make) and the computer gives the same message.

- When plugging in the 45W charger that came with the laptop, the laptop also charges (obviously), but this powersupply is too light for the dock and it won't work.

Can you please help me fix this issue as I don't want to have to plug in multiple cables each day I arrive at work for the numerous screends, USB devices etc. that I need to do my work.

Kind regards,

Tom

We have the same problem with Proobok 840 G9. We have purchased about 30 of these laptops and about 20% of them have the issue where they sometimes does not charge from the docking station, which is an HP USB-C 5 Essential Dock. Everything works except charging. I have spoken with HP support multiple times about the issue and they say that it is a common issue with USB-C and that there is nothing that can be done from HPs side as they are not in charge of the USB-protocol. I call this BS, I've never heard of it before until we started purchasing HP Probooks. One way to solve it temporarily is to hold the power button for 30 seconds to make a full reset but the problem will be back within a week.

I have users call me at least once or twice a week with this issue and I am currently trying to get money to buy Dell laptops for replacement, the CFO is not keen on buying new laptops again when we just did it. I have lost all faith in HP and their support.

I hope a BIOS update can help you one day. Because at the moment, HP doesn't care about this issue.

We as a company also suffer from this. Just the other day we bought 30 laptop and regret this. The HP support indicated that they have never heard of this before so they do not have a solution for this. We are talking here about HP Probook 450 G9
