Hi @adibgamer9999
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out!
I understand that the Synaptics TouchPad settings are no longer appearing, and the two-finger scrolling feature is not working on your HP EliteBook 840 G2. I'll be glad to help you with this.
To better understand the situation, could you kindly share a few detail ?
- Does the TouchPad still move the cursor normally, with only the two-finger scrolling feature missing?
In the meantime, kindly try the following steps:
Step 1: Check TouchPad Settings
- Open Settings -Bluetooth & devices - Touchpad.
- Verify that the TouchPad is enabled.
- Expand the Scroll & Zoom section.
- Ensure "Drag two fingers to scroll" is enabled.
Step 2: Reinstall the TouchPad Driver
- Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
- Expand Mice and other pointing devices.
- Right-click Synaptics Pointing Device or HID-compliant TouchPad.
- Select Uninstall device.
- Restart the notebook.
- Windows should automatically reinstall the driver after reboot.
Step 3: Install the HP Driver
Kindly download and install the latest TouchPad driver available for your model from the HP Support page: https://support.hp.com/ .
After installation, restart the notebook and check whether the Synaptics settings tab becomes available.
Step 4: Run HP Hardware Diagnostics
- Turn off the notebook.
- Turn it back on and repeatedly tap F2.
- Run the TouchPad/Pointing Device Test if available.
- Share the results with us.
Kindly refer to the following HP document for additional guidance:

You may find the following HP Community document helpful, as it discusses restoring two-finger scrolling and Synaptics TouchPad functionality: Two-Finger Scroll Stopped Working
Based on the screenshot, the message indicates that Windows is unable to communicate properly with the Synaptics Pointing Device driver. This typically occurs when the driver becomes corrupted, is partially removed, or Windows installs a generic driver that does not include advanced TouchPad features such as two-finger scrolling, gesture controls, and the Synaptics settings panel. Reinstalling the correct HP TouchPad driver and ensuring Windows is fully updated often restores these features.
I hope this helps.
