I ordered a custom laptop on April 24, 2025. I received an email notification saying estimated shipping date of May 07. Not too bad for a custom laptop. May 07 arrives and no shipping confirmation email. Next day I get email with new estimated shipping date of May 21. I have contacted customer service twice. New shipping date of May 22 (today). No shipping notice. Do I just cancel my order? It’s now been almost a month. Kicker is…get this…HP didn’t hesitate to charge my credit card when I placed my order! So now I’ve already paid for a computer I don’t have. Suggestions?

That is very hard to say depending on available stock. Normally I could receive my machines within 3 working days.
Regards.

Apologies for jumping in unannounced.
Dragon Opinion
I order CTO (Custom-to-Order) systems exclusively so I get what I want.
On one occasion, I had to wait a year to place the order so I could get the CPU I wanted --
True, it was during the "Covid years" and everything was weird and more difficult for a time.
Then, when I was able to order what I wanted, I had to wait three months to have the system built and delivered.
Seemed like forever at the time, of course.
This time frame was an exception -- and the Mobile Workstation in question was built using all high-end components.
The Order situation can be different every time based on several factors, including (and not limited to):
- What is ordered - the more popular the system type, where it is built
- When the CTO purchase order is submitted (don't expect to get a CTO order in time for Christmas if you wait until October or later to order)
- The components included for the order (available or not exactly when wanted / needed)
- The condition of the supply chains, including those that impact shipping from overseas and even local / cross-country trucking
True - you have to pay up-front to purchase the computer and place the custom work order.
Cancel?
After this much time, CTO order might not be something you can just cancel.
You might be able to do so, but it's just as likely that you cannot do other than wait for the delivery.
If you don't want the computer when you do receive it, check the return policy and perhaps send it back.
