Getting an error message on bootup which basically tells me the clock is wrong and to reset with the OS. Makes me think a replacement RTC battery is required, but where is it?

The RTC battery is on the system board, of course.

Considering that pretty much everything else has to come out / off first, you'll probably end up looking at more than the one page...
What else?
The clock should run, of course.
If you have not done so, check the sync setup...
Control Panel > Date and Time
Tab Internet Time
Change Settings
Check Synchronize with an Internet time server
Select a server from the drop-down list
Update Now
OK to save and exit
What else?
I've never checked for it; there MIGHT be something in the BIOS that impacts the clock / time setup.
If your BIOS is out of date, that might impact how the system perceives itself...

Could be there is a need to run Windows Updates - unlikely...
