I never use any passwords but, what happened to the 'remove the battery' for a while to reset the bios? Been reading

this for many years. That would be the, usually, CR-3032 battery.

Of course getting at it is a problem with a laptop !!!!

Removing the battery will not work on ProBooks and EliteBooks.

Hey, I have an issue here... Did the DOS method on laptop 8440p, everything goes great, after 1 run i got message "all clear", after second run "**DONE**" so i was hoping I'm good to go with my 8440p, but no, BIOS administrator password* stays untouched. Have came across such situation?

*By BIOS administrator password i mean... BIOS administrator password. I am able to go into BIOS, change boot sequance and other features, but cant change anything in "security" card.

Welcome to the HP Support Community

Contact HP and they should be able to send you a customized SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password.

Phone >> http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-phone-assist.html

When talking to the HP rep ask them to escalate your service request.

Or download these files.

 https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1m0NU2sPsAdlSWcn7TJynbt8D6oChbrMT?usp=sharing

Insert clean USB flash drive.

Then run USB Image tool.

Choose the flash drive then click on RESTORE.

After restore remove flash drive.

Insert flash drive into locked laptop and boot.  ”If an HDD is installed remove before booting.”

At C:\OUTPUT   type CD..   “Then hit enter”

Type HPBR    “Then hit enter”

First thing is to save your settings.

Select #3 re-program.

Press “S” to save system information.

Type HPBR and hit enter.

Select   “FIRST RUN”

Then select model.

After reboot repeat same as above but this time SELECT, “SECOND RUN”

If you cannot boot from USB flash drive use Options in the Image tool to build a HDD.

Then use the drive to boot the program on the locked laptop.
