On the latest elitebook, but also on any laptop with the modern keyboard... how do I type very common combinations for unix/linux such as shift+ins?!
BOTH shift keys are also function keys! one is the function lock the other is print screen. and the only way i can have Insert key is by pressing Fn key (insert is available on both Fn+F10, or Fn+E)... but if i press Fn+E(for Insert) + shift... then it becomes (Fn+E = Insert)+(Fn+shift = function lock)...
shift+insert is very common (it is "Paste" on most terminals) but this also happens with every single combination on "hidden behind Fn" keys that require shift. Such as shift+printscreen to screen shot only a single windows, shift+break to pause debuggers, etc...
and this impact all OSes

Hello,
I feel your pain about keyboard layouts and missing keys. It's form over function.
Tested on my G9 laptop:
Fn+E = Insert;
Shift+Fn+E = Shift+Insert
If I press Fn+E first and THEN add Shift to the mix, then it just toggles the Fn Lock. So, you must press Shift first - as you would when pressing Shift+Insert in a normal keyboard, n’est-ce pas?
You can always use e.g. Keyboard Manager in Microsoft PowerToys (free software) to remap an unnecessary key - perhaps the co-pilot key, or the key above Tab - into Insert function. You can remap keys in Linux as well.
