HP EliteBook 645 14 inch G10 Notebook PC (79B71AV)
Dear HP Support Team I am writing to request technical support regarding the internal NVMe SSD on my HP business notebook. The internal SSD drive is not being detected properly at the hardware level in alternative boot modes despite being fully visible within Windows. It appears that the BIOS firmware or business security policies are restricting raw drive access. Could you please provide guidance or a firmware update to unlock the Storage Controller Mode so that the internal SSD can be accessed directly? Product Number: 86U39UC#ABA Serial Number: Edited Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 7530U. Thank you.

Hi  @Ahmed_0121206

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I understand you're looking into NVMe SSD visibility on your HP EliteBook G10, particularly when using alternative boot environments.Dont worry, I'll be glad to help gather some additional details and help you with few steps that may help isolate the cause.

To better understand the situation, could you kindly confirm the following:

  • Is the SSD seen in the BIOS under Storage or System Information?
  • Which alternative boot environment are you using ?
  • Does the SSD disappear only in the alternate boot environment, or is it sometimes missing in BIOS as well?
  • Was there any recent SSD replacements, or hardware changes like a third party hardware ?
  • If possible, kindly share the exact SSD specification installed in the notebook.

In the meantime, you may try the below steps and confirm

  1. Power off the notebook completely.
  2. Press F10 during startup to enter BIOS Setup.
  3. Load the BIOS defaults:
    • Navigate to Exit or Main menu.
    • Select Load Setup Defaults.
    • Save changes and restart.
  4. Return to BIOS and verify whether the SSD is detected under System Information.
  5. Run the HP Hardware Diagnostics:
    • Press F2 during startup.
    • Select Component Tests -Storage -Quick Test.
    • If available, also run the Extensive Test.
  6. Ensure the BIOS is updated to the latest version available for your model through HP Support Assistant or the HP Drivers page - https://support.hp.com/
  7. If you are using a Linux-based boot environment, check whether the storage controller is detected using the latest kernel version, as some environments may require updated storage drivers.

I hope this helps.
