Hi Community,

We have been seeing an increasing number of devices in our organization that are experiencing problems with utilizing built in Webcams with Microsoft Teams. These issues are intermittent and not consistent, making it difficult to troubleshoot. I'm wondering if anyone else has been seeing a similar issue with HP notebooks within the past 2 months.

Issue:

While in a Teams meeting, occassionally, Teams is unable to recognize the webcam. The user can have the webcam on and working, and after 10-15 minutes the webcam will no longer be recognized. When disabling and re-enabling the webcam there are times it starts working again, and other times it won't work.

I had my users test to see if this is a Teams issue or a Camera issue by opening the camera app when the issue is present. They have reported that they are able to use the Camera app while the error is present in Teams. Leading me to believe it is only within Teams the issue is present.

The two devices I can confirm at this time we are seeing the issue on are:

- Elitebook 860 G11

- Elitebook 850 G6

- Elitebook 650 G10

There are 1-2 more different computers that I cannot recall the exact models.

What we have tried to troubleshoot this issue:

- Clean reinstall teams

- Update Windows and all HP Hardware Drivers & BIOS

- Restart computer

- SFC, CHKDSK, DISM Image Cleanup

Additionally: I have just tried completely re-imaging the Elitebook G11 where the issue was present. Wiping all data and doing a fresh install of windows and HP Updates. We will see if the issue returns or not.

I have read posts on other websites where people are stating this is present with the new version of Teams, but we are now unable to roll back to the old Teams as Microsoft is shutting it down in July.

Even though this does seem like a Microsoft Teams issue, I am posting this here because it is ONLY present on our HP machines. Surfaces, Surface Laptops, Dell units in our ecosystem are not experiencing this issue. I have submitted a ticket with Microsoft about this, but I have not received any updates from them about it. Perhaps HP can implement an update that can resolve this?

Thanks,

Same issue with our Devices.

It probably depends on the batch. Different camera modules are installed.
Can be checked in the device manager.
The ones from Realtek only cause problems. The modules from “something with Sun” work perfectly.

Well, glad to hear that we are not alone.. I actually just ran into this issue for the first time on my Probook G8 in my last Teams meeting. Had to fight the camera button and try and toggle it about 4-5 times before camera would turn on.

It looks like I have a new Firmware and HP Camera Driver update available now.. Will see if it happens again after the updates.
