I have my notebook in the office and would like to know whether it is harmful for the battery if I keep the power adapter on. Unfortunately, the battery is permanently installed.Or should you rather fully charge and then work until the battery is empty and then recharge? What about the Power Manager? Is there a good description?

It is fine to leave the computer plugged into AC power.

The battery won't "overcharge".

There is information that says that reducing the number of times the battery must be charged (recharge cycles) might increase battery longevity.  No idea whether this is the case.  I have a four year old Zbook 17 G3 that stays plugged in most of the time (occasional trips offsite) - after this many years battery charge hovers between 96-97 percent.  Big workstation, large battery, heavy duty charger:  Any or all of these could make a difference, of course - the only point is one of illustration "what can be".

Not sure about context of the second part of your question.  If the question refers to battery technology, there are several good articles on the 'net about the subject.  The content varies - pick one that is compatible with your skill level (basic to engineering).

The Power Management settings - Windows

Windows key > Settings > Power > Next to your plan: Change Plan Settings >

Change advanced power settings >

Scroll down, open Processor power management >

Adjust settings in each sub-category for both On battery and Plugged in >

OK

In particular, be aware that changing the minimum and / or processor state on battery may substantially change battery how long the battery lasts under load

In addition, consider altering the minimum / maximum settings for other categories.

Example:

  • Intel(R) Graphics Settings (or other graphics card in your system)
  • Display > Display Brightness
  • Display > Enable adaptive brightness > OFF for both battery and plugged-in

Which Power Plan should you use?

There are lots of articles on the subject of Power Plans.

Some content might be more recent than others - check the date on the article.

For example, from How-To Geek - easy to read, lots of examples

Should You Use the Balanced, Power Saver, or High Performance Power Plan on Windows?

How to Enable the Ultimate Performance Power Plan in Windows 10

From TenForums - articles from this source are well written and easy to understand
